JUNE 2005: PLAQUE RESTORATION PROJECT
A two year restoration project was completed in June 2005. The newly restored plaques were hung on the wall outside the auditorium just in time for graduation. The maintenance staff at Rogers installed the plaques and ceiling lighting so that the plaques are easy to read at night.

Several of the plaques are from the original Rogers High School on Broadway and were presented to the Alumni Association for safe keeping when the building was torn down to make room for the new Thompson Middle School.

The Alumni Association asked Mr. Howard Newman, a nationally known restoration artist whose son and daughter graduated from Rogers, to restore the bronze plaques. Restoration of the six metal plaques took almost a year. Mr. Newman donated his time and expertise charging the Alumni Association only for materials and his assistant’s time. According to Mr. Newman the plaques have great artistic value for their time period in addition to their historical significance to Rogers High School. Mr. Newman estimated restoration costs at $10,000.
